Since I’m not quite a professional line editor, I offer a lower rate of $0.015 per word. The EFA (Editorial Freelancers Association) has a page on its website about standard industry rates that you can use to compare. I only accept payment through PayPal.

When contacting me about a potential project, you can submit a 1,000-word sample of your manuscript for a sample edit. This helps me gauge the difficulty of your manuscript while showing the types of changes I make during the editing process. Afterward, I will ask for the total word count and other details to help me assess your project.

Please do not give me a rough first draft when submitting. Line editing usually occurs later in the publishing process, so I expect your work to have gone through some self-editing and/or beta reading. I reserve the right to reject a manuscript if it is not ready for a line edit.

I perform two rounds of editing for every manuscript, from start to finish. After the first round, I will return an edited version of the manuscript for your authorial approval. You can accept or reject any changes you agree or disagree with, along with answering any queries I have left for your attention. This collaborative effort helps me with the second round of editing, which should become an outstanding version of your original vision.

I record all style changes and author preferences on a style sheet. The style sheet will track preferred spellings of words (toward vs. towards) and punctuation usage (does the author use semicolons regularly or infrequently?).

By the end of the project, you will receive a marked-up manuscript using Tracked Changes, a clean edit of the manuscript, and a style sheet. In addition, you will have a one-month period during which you may request further edits at no additional cost (valid only up to around 10,000 words edited this way).
